Innovation Labs

Most environmental consultants measure emissions. At eGreen, we also build and test the technologies that control them.

eGreen's Innovation Division operates three active R&D labs working on problems where commercially available solutions are either too expensive, too large, or too slow to reach the industries that need them. Our work bridges environmental advisory and applied clean-technology development — turning consulting insight into deployable hardware.

Three Labs. One Mission.

Affordable, deployable, field-tested environmental technology for emerging markets.

Lab 01

Air Quality Monitoring Sensors Lab

Making ambient air quality data accessible, accurate, and affordable.

Reference-grade air quality monitoring stations cost between ₹20 lakh and ₹2 crore — putting them out of reach for smaller municipalities, industrial MSMEs, and research programmes that need dense spatial coverage. Low-cost electrochemical and metal-oxide gas sensors promise a 10X to 100X cost reduction, but they come with well-documented trade-offs in drift, cross-sensitivity, and environmental dependence.

Our Work

The lab conducts independent, side-by-side testing of affordable gas sensor packages for NO₂, SO₂, CO, O₃, and PM₂.₅/PM₁₀ against reference analysers. We characterise each package across three axes:

Why It Matters

Our published characterisation data helps regulators, industrial operators, and city administrations deploy low-cost sensor networks with a realistic understanding of what the data can — and cannot — be used for. This is the missing middle layer between sensor vendors and end users.

Lab 02

Carbon Capture Technology Lab

Mobile, modular, and electrochemical approaches to CO₂ capture for industries that can't afford megaton-scale infrastructure.

Large stationary carbon capture plants require hundreds of crores in capex and multi-year construction timelines. For most Indian industrial emitters — particularly in cement, chemicals, and mid-sized power — that economic profile does not work. The Carbon Capture Technology Lab develops capture systems that are portable, right-sized, and suitable for point-source deployment.

Flagship Project: Mobile CO₂ Capture System for IIT-Madras

eGreen designed, fabricated, erected, and commissioned a 250 kg/day mobile CO₂ capture plant for the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. The system is fully self-contained, transportable, and operates as a research-grade platform for solvent studies, process optimisation, and student training.

The mobile format is deliberate. Unlike fixed infrastructure, a mobile plant can be deployed at the point of emission, validated across different flue gas compositions, and redeployed as the capture technology evolves — making it a practical entry point for industries that need to demonstrate carbon reduction without committing to permanent capex.

Current R&D: Electrochemical CO₂ Capture

Alongside conventional amine-based capture, the lab is actively developing an electrochemical CO₂ capture approach — a pathway that uses electricity directly (instead of steam-driven regeneration) to release captured CO₂ from the sorbent. Electrochemical systems promise lower parasitic energy loads, modular scaling, and natural compatibility with renewable electricity, making them a strong candidate for the next generation of industrial carbon capture in India.

Recognition

In March 2023, eGreen was recognised as a finalist in the Low Carbon Technology Accelerator under the FLCTD Programme — a joint initiative of UNIDO, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Acceleration partner: Sangam Ventures. The FLCTD programme is designed to accelerate deployment of commercially viable low-carbon technologies in India, and finalist selection recognises both the technology's potential and the team's ability to deliver at scale.

Lab 03

Waste Treatment Technology Lab

Custom-engineered, compact thermal and sterilization systems for clients whose waste streams don't fit standard equipment.

The Waste Treatment Technology Lab designs and delivers bespoke waste treatment hardware — mobile and stationary incinerators, containerized thermal systems, and autoclaving units — engineered to each client's specific waste profile, capacity requirement, and site constraints. Our strength is in solving the waste-stream problems that off-the-shelf equipment cannot.

Flagship Project: 100 kg/hr Mobile BMW Incinerator for the Government of Puducherry and Karaikal

During the COVID-19 pandemic, transportation and collection of bio-medical waste from quarantine centres, field hospitals, and containment zones became operationally complex, and moving infectious COVID-19 BMW over long distances to fixed treatment facilities raised concerns of onward pandemic spread during transit.

In response, eGreen partnered with its subsidiary Pondicherry Solidwaste Management Company Pvt. Ltd. (www.psmpl.net) to design, fabricate, and deliver a 100 kg/hr mobile bio-medical waste incinerator to the Government of Puducherry and Karaikal. The system was engineered to CPCB emission norms for BMW incineration and configured for rapid deployment at designated COVID-response sites.

The project demonstrated eGreen's capacity to conceive, engineer, and deliver complex thermal systems for special sectors on client-specified timelines — from requirement to commissioned hardware.

Ongoing Capability

The lab continues to develop and fabricate custom waste treatment solutions on a project-specific basis, including:

Every system is designed to client specification — capacity, footprint, feed mechanism, emission control configuration, and mobility — rather than retrofitted from a standard catalogue.

What This Means for Clients

When you engage eGreen on a carbon reduction, air quality, or waste management problem, you are not getting a consultant pointing at a vendor brochure. You are getting a team that has designed, built, and commissioned the technology.

For GHG reduction & net-zero targets

we can advise on capture technology options, support feasibility studies, and draw on direct deployment experience.

img

For air quality compliance

we can specify sensor networks with a grounded understanding of each device's real-world performance.

img

For waste management programmes

we can design and deploy mobile thermal treatment for locations where conventional infrastructure is absent.

We do not just recommend the technology. We have built it.
